Cabot Art Barn Returns for Second Year

The Wiswell House on Main Street will again open its carriage barn for a one-week art exhibit, June 25 – July 4.

One of Cabot’s most treasured landmarks is the historic Wiswell House on Main Street, built between 1868 and 1890 and authentically preserved in its original colors. During the Fall Foliage Festival last year, owners Betsy MacKay and Neil Bainton opened the carriage barn behind the house for a pop-up exhibition featuring local artists. It met with such success that they will open the Cabot Art Barn again this summer with a new weeklong show from June 25 through the Town’s famous July 4th celebration, open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Both locals and out-of-town visitors expressed enthusiasm for last fall’s exhibit. “I’ve always thought it was an amazing house,” said Janet Westervelt,” and it was so cool to be able to go inside the barn, which is pretty much in its original condition. Neil Bainton was so friendly, and the art was impressive.”

Thirteen artists and craftspeople will be exhibiting their work in this summer’s show. Featured new artists this year include celebrated handblown glass artists Wendy and Harry Besett, whose work has been exhibited at the White House and at many other prestigious venues across the country. Also new this year are Cathy Dellinger (a painter from Danville), as well as April Borelli and Sandy Pond, both from Cabot.

Returning for the second year of this event are Rosalind Daniels (photos and fiber), Sandy Ducharme (hooking and floorcloths), Ken Klingler (antler and wood carving), Ruth Kaldor (oil and watercolor paintings), Margie Pulaski (paintings and pastels), Laura Shaw (watercolor greeting cards), Janet Van Fleet (digital prints), and Joanne Vecchiola (clay vessels and sculptures).

Gallery host Neil Bainton promises there will be something for everyone at the Art Barn. “This year the gallery is focusing on affordable work that we hope will appeal to every taste. All are welcome to visit, chat, and check out the great work we’ve assembled in the barn,” says Bainton, “and you can even have a preview on our website, CabotArtBarn.com .”

The show will be open again for this year’s Fall Foliage season, from September 24 to October 2.
